Abstract
The question of the mass distribution in the Galaxy is studied basing on the system rotation law. The data by P. P. Parenago and the Dutch radio astronomers on rotation of the Galaxy are used. Two models of the Galaxy are examined: the flat and the spheric ones. Formulae (11), (12), (13), (14) and (22) establishig the relation between the rotational velocity and the mass surface density are obtained for both models. The calculation method is worked out. The estimations were made in two variants: On the base of the formula (18), an extrapolation of the value is made for both variants (fig. 2) that are compared basing on the obtained results. The mass distribution density as a function of the distance from the ccntre of the. Galaxy is shown in the tables II and III and graphically represented in fig. 3 and 4. Four functions based on various assumptions made by us are obtained. The secured results are compared with the stellar astronomy data. September, 1956
