Abstract

The development of works in the field of focal photometry of star by means of the photoelectric microphotometer gives rise to a number of problems concerning methods to be followed. It is known that the galvanomctric value E determines the photographic effect of a star when measured with photoelectric microphotometer. The principal causes affecting the galvanomctric value, and, consequently, the star brightness determined by it are: a)the field's errors; b)the defects of guiding; c)the errors of focusing. The present note deals with an attempt to investigate the above mentioned influences for the 13-inch reflector of the Abastumani Observatory. The errors due to the curvature of the focal surface were studied and the corresponding corrections are represented in Fig. 1. Fig. 2 shows the dependence of corrections on the measured value of corrections on the measured value of E and on the distance from the centre for the case of 0.5 mm intrafocality. Further, the influence of the errors of guiding has been studied. The results lead to the conclusion that if two plates are to be compared with some photometric purpose it is essential to ensure extremely careful guiding. At last, the study of the error, of focusing shows that when using the photoelectric microphotometer for certain investigations (e. g. photographic ob¬servations of variable stars), it is more expedient to photograph with an intrafocality of the order of 0.5 mm.
