Abstract
The interstellar absorption and distribution of dark matter in the Taurus Dark Nebula up to an average distance of 1.5-2.0 kpc have been studied on the basis of our catalogue [17] of stellar magnitudes, colour indices and spectral and luminosity classes. A region of 76 square degrees was investigated, being divided into 10 subregions with homogeneous absorption. The dependence of the total visual absorption upon the distance was plotted for each subregion. The analysis of those curvos permitted recognition of individual absorbing clouds. It is noticed that the interstellar reddening in the given direction commences in tho vicinity of the Sun and the densest clouds lie within 300 pc. Less dense clouds fill the entire cone within 550 pc. Another dense cloud lies in the range of 660-700 pc. Further away the absorbing matter was found in the area 1 - 168, - 177? bII- -15°- -20° (Fig.21). There is positive correlation observed between the neutral hydro-Ken distribution and that of absorbing matter.
