In 1962 spectrographic observations conducted at Abastumani revealed increased intensity in the Hα hydrogen line in the twilight glow of the sky. Observations carried out in the 1962-1968 helped to establish the so called morning-evening effect. Morning intensities proved to be higher than the evening ones. The variations in Hα intensities were ascribed to the heights of the luminous layers of the Earth's atmosphere. Information has been obtained on the quantity of hydrogen at heights of 180-300 kms. Observations made in different directions revealed increased intensity in the hydrogen line towards the North as compared to the East and the West. Changes in Hα intensities connected with solar activity levels were fixed. In 1962 maximum intensity was registered; in 1964, 1965 and 1966 the intensity was at minimum level;beginning with 1967 intensity started to rise again. An attempt was made to explain the result not only on the basis of dissipation of hydrogen from the atmosphere, but also on the basis of the accretion in tho atmosphere.
