Abstract
The spherical and chromatic aberrations and the astigmatism of the 16-inch photovisual object-glass have been investigated. The spherical aberration is represented in Fig.1. The curve indicates a fair aplanatism of the object-glass. The "technical constant" is equal to 0.17. The astigmatism is characterized by the data given in Table IV. The object-glass is noticeably astigmatic. The chromatic curve is shown in Fig. 2. The object-glass is satisfactorily achromatic for visual rays. The 16-inch refractor is provided with a special correcting lens, introduced in a convergent beam of rays at a distance of 1.5 m from the focus. The correcting lens serves to render in 16-inch object -glass suitable for photographic purposees. The 16-inch object-glass was also examined in combination with correcting lens. This last reduces considerably the useful field of refractor. Satisfactory images are obtained yo to te distance of 10 minutes of are from the optical centre. The curves of the spherical and chromatic aberrations for the 16-inch object-glass in combination with the correcting lens are represented in Fig.3 and Fig.4. August, 1938.
