Abstract

The work generalizes the Kleiber theorem [1] for the case of the ellipsoidal law of velocity distribution being considered. Analytical expressions of mean radial and tangential velocities (Vr and Vt) for separate zones with different galactic latitudes are obtained. It is shown that Kleiber theorem represents a particular case of the author's generalized theorem and is derived from the latter, with the admission of H=K. A graph is constructed of the theoretically deduced relation Vt/Vr dependence on galactic latitude (figs. 3, 4, 5). The appearance of the curve depends both on axes ration H/K value and vertex axis inclination relative to the galactic plane. Using catalogue data [12], [13], [14], the value Vt/Vr in the same zone are calculated, and a dependence curve of this ratio on the galactic latitude is constructed (fig. 8). By comparison of theoretical and observational curves the values 0.4 for H/K and b=10° for the vertex axis inclination are obtained. The question of parallax determination accuracy is considered. On the base of given K/H=0.4, b0=10° we obtain the value Vt/Vr =1.54 (for the whole sphere). The difference between observational value Vt/Vr and 1.54 is due to Vt determination errors (Vr determination is relatively accurate) what leads, finally, to systematic errors. September, 1955
