The article is dedicated to a problem semiotic and linguistic study of the French proverbs. Linguistics studies the proverb as a phraseological unit and semiotics studies it as the linguistic sign of a particular type. In order to connect semiotic paremiology and linguistics, it is necessary to apply the modern theory of nomination.
