Abstract

Battle between “Fathers“and “Sons“ and Zoomorphic Metaphors in Akaki Tsereteli’s Poetry Zoomorphic metaphors are widely-spread kind of metaphors. This expressive-estimating means of description is designation of people with names of animals and birds. There is an old tradition In Georgian literature of using zoomorphic metaphors. They are especially typical of Akaki Tsereteli’ creativity. Images of bee, bat, peacock, butterfly, firefly are inseparable from our conception about poetry of Akaki Tsereteli. It is notable that systematic usage of zoomorphic metaphors in Akaki Tsereteli’s poetry is beginning from 1870-th, when the object of criticism becomes the representatives of „fathers“. Consideration of these works by akaki Tsereteli is impossible without take into account literary background, which are “riddles“ by Ilia Chavchavadze. In the riddles by Ilia Chavchavadze world appeared as procedural phenomenon – just only as becoming. Zoomorphic metaphors (in particular, in Akaki Tsereteli’s poetry), that are exemples of interpenetration of two objects (as soon as generally is substantive metaphors) reflect the same condition of things, as in the riddles by Ilia Chavchavadze – becoming of things. Thereby, the systematic usage of zoomorphic metaphors in Akaki Tsereteli’s poetry is not an accidental phenomenon. Ilia Chavchavadze and Akaki Tsereteli have the same perception of world, that manifests in different forms in their poetry.
