Abstract
The paper discusses social and stylistic changes that have taken place in current French. For a long period of time only the changes at the level of vocabulary were taken into consideration. At one period of the history of French diaphasic changes were thought to be more important than diatopic and diastratal. Today the main accent is on the communicative aspect.
