Abstract

Social work profession is a newly emerged discipline in the former Soviet Union countries and it is developed as a response to the severe socio-economic crises followed by the collapse of the USSR. The ecological systems approach gives insight about the problems these countries are facing and also, defines different modalities of social work profession highlighting its idiosyncratic nature. However, social work as a global profession with its broader super-national concerns requires new approaches that will inform about the best practices for building adequate social welfare systems in these countries.
